Be it film or book, there's nothing like sitting down, and losing yourself in a good 'ole plot.

Two weeks ago I borrowed the latest Jill Mansell book (Rumour Has It) from the library. They have some of the newer books on a '7 day no renewal policy', and I knew I would blast through it. I've read all but one of her books to date, and the plots seem to have grown up with me...

I was finished by about day 4, and it only took so long as I had a busy weekend; I couldn't sit and finish it in one or two sittings. They're not intelligent books, just fluffy, lose yourself and relax chick lit, but pure and utter escapism for me.

Then, last week my lovefilm subscription delivered a Korean film through the letter box. Tube. I'd read the reviews and was just expecting a cheesy action film with subtitles. It's said to be a cross between Die Hard and Speed, set in a subway, in Korean. It was so much more than the sum of its parts.

It took a little while to get going (apparently Asian films often piece together bit by bit) but suddenly I was hooked, needing the loo but to curious to pause the DVD. The characters were really likeable, and by the end of the film I was so attached to the hero. Unlike in Hollywood films heros often die. I cried copious amounts when sad stuff happened but I was so immersed in the film that I forgot I was reading subtitles, and kept turning the volume up to hear better!

Heartily recommended.

Then, before that we watched 'The Marine' which stars John Cena (from WWE [previously WWF] star in his first action role. Basically all hammed up, bad action. It was sooooo cheesy, but hubby and I laughed, me til I cried. Expect little, get a lot.

All of these things took me out of my life and into someone elses shoes. When they were over I was glad for how good things are in my life.

But still, a good plot that you can really get into, talk about the next day at work, relate to...

that's something to be cheered by.
